How to choose construction project management software

  1. 1. List the workflows you must control

Write down the registers your projects actually run: RFIs, document transmittals, QA test requests, NCRs, ITPs, HSE incidents, site diaries, management of change and budget. General work tools such as Monday.com, Asana and Smartsheet can be configured to track them, but they have no purpose-built construction registers. Construction platforms such as Procore and TaskRox ship them.

  2. 2. Decide whether you need a scheduler or a delivery platform

If scheduling is the only gap, a dedicated scheduler such as Microsoft Project or Primavera P6 may be enough. TaskRox includes a CPM Gantt with all four dependency types, critical path and working-day calendars, plus the RFI, QA, HSE, document and cost registers the schedule drives.

  3. 3. Check what your client or contract mandates

Some government and Tier 1 projects mandate a specific system, for example Aconex for document control or Primavera P6 for programme exchange. Where a system is contractually required, use it for that obligation.

  4. 4. Compare the buying model, not only the feature list

TaskRox is priced per billable user per month in AUD: Pro $50 AUD / user / month + GST and Enterprise $100 AUD / user / month + GST. Viewer-tier members and external contacts are free. Procore, Aconex and Primavera P6 are sold through quotes and sales-negotiated contracts; each comparison links to the vendor's current official pricing instead of restating it.

  5. 5. Trial on a real project

Start a 14-day TaskRox trial with no credit card, set up one live project and run your current workflow through it before you decide.
